James 5:16b (NLT) “The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.”
E.M. Bounds wrote in his book “The Weapon of Prayer”: “Men and women are needed whose prayers will give to the world the utmost power of God; who will make His promises to blossom with rich and full results.”
This quote resounds with the truth expressed in the opening scripture which clearly states that wonderful results are a product of great power generated by earnest prayer. Nothing happens in both the natural and spiritual world by itself without the application of some power, energy, or force. There is always a cause and effect, and prayer is one such causative activity to bring about any desired effect.
Here are three great elements to have in prayer which will generate great power for wonderful results:
1. Great expectations. God’s word promises us that our expectation shall not be cut off (Proverbs 23:18). However, if we are going to expect anything from God, then we must know what He is willing to give. In Psalm 81:16 (CEV), God said, “But I would feed you with the finest bread and with the best honey until you were full.” God is willing to give the finest blessings and provisions and, therefore, we must have great expectations to receive the good and perfect gifts that come from Him.
2. Great faith. Hebrews 11:6 says, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is…” Our faith is an imperative if we are to stand before Almighty God to make a demand on His great power. The eleventh chapter of the book of Hebrews is an album of how people obtained wonderful results in their circumstances against all odds. We may also, through like-faith in prayer, fill our slots in this great collection of great achievers.
3. Great rejoicing. The Bible says about Abraham, “…but he grew strong and was empowered by faith as he gave praise and glory to God” (Romans 4:20, AMPC). Rejoicing in the Lord through praise anchors our faith and triggers the power of God for wonderful results. This is the reason why when Paul and Silas prayed and sang praises unto God, the foundations of the prison were shaken and all the doors were opened (Acts 16:25-26).
Precious one, every deep-seated desire for a wonderful life is God-given; and so, with great expectation, great faith and great rejoicing let us partner with Him in prayer to generate great power for wonderful results.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank You that Your power has been made available to me to achieve wonderful results in my life. I receive Your best and I settle for nothing less, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
